How We Began

Inspired by Hummie, our backyard hummingbird and our children’s love for birds, The Nest is a teacher-led homeschool collective that nurtures curiosity and growth. Through group learning, exploration, and creativity, we provide a supportive space—just like a cozy nest—for children to flourish. Join us as we take flight on a journey of discovery together!

Core Principles

  1. Teacher-Guided, Purposeful Learning
Our educators provide structured lessons designed to build strong foundational skills in all areas of education. Lessons are engaging, hands-on, developmentally appropriate, and designed to spark curiosity while ensuring mastery of key concepts.

  2. Community and Collaboration
Education is best when it is a shared experience. Our collective fosters a supportive learning environment where teachers, students, and families work together to inspire growth and character development.

  3. Character and Leadership Development
We prioritize the development of strong character, responsibility, and leadership skills. Through mentorship, service projects, and cooperative learning, students cultivate integrity, empathy, and resilience.

  4. Experiential and Hands-On Learning
We believe that children learn best by doing. Our approach includes real-world experiences, hands-on projects, exploration, and practical skill-building to foster deep understanding.

  5. Traditional Structure with Flexibility
While our teachers lead instruction, we recognize that each child is unique. Our approach allows for differentiation, accommodating various learning styles and pacing while maintaining an organized and intentional educational framework.

  6. Nature, Play, and Physical Education
Time outdoors is an essential part of a healthy and balanced education. Nature play will be integrated into the end of our day at a local playground or nature preserve.

  7. A Love for Lifelong Learning
Education does not stop at childhood. We model and encourage a mindset of continuous learning, curiosity, and adaptability, preparing children to thrive in an ever-changing world.
